Back home again

Well, we managed to get ourselves through a couple of thunderstorms and back home safely. In fact, the various and sundry road construction detours in Minnesota were more of a hindrance than was the weather. Veroqua and Vernon County are worth the trip. We can't speak to the trout fishing itself since much of our time was spent looking for water worth fishing that also had public access. That just sets us up for another trip, with the knowledge gained this time feeding onto more time spent fishing and much less time (we hope) spent driving.

The route we took home was up along the Mississippi, on the Minnesota side. It's been too long since we've visited that area and we're looking forward to revisiting the Weaver Bottoms and Whitewater River later this Summer or early Autumn.

For now, we're enjoying the "nice to go traveling' but oh so nice to be home" mode.

On the Mississippi

Through wild and tangled forests
   The broad, unhasting river flows—
   Spotted with rain-drops, gray with night;
     Upon its curving breast there goes
A lonely steamboat’s larboard light,
       A blood-red star against the shadowy oaks;
Noiseless as a ghost, through greenish gleam
Of fire-flies, before the boat’s wild scream—
          A heron flaps away
          Like silence taking flight.
