Branches bared,
No leaves left on trees
tamaracks turned, poplar bared, oaks browned
People covered,
No coats left in closets
Blossoms gone
No flowers left in gardens
No butterflies, no bees,
No nectar, no pollen
No grass to be mowed
Just leaves that have fallen
No warming sun, no swimming fun,
No hummingbirds humming
No firefly catching,
No fireworks watching
No days that aren't shortening
No long dusk-filled evenings
Now nights all grow longer
North country's November
first ice, early snow
First ice, gray skies,
Snow days! Surprise!
No 'squitoes, no flies,
Thanksgiving!
