A hint of coming attractions

We are now past the midpoint of August. Today's weather is definitely Autumnal, although we expect Summer-like temperatures to return soon. So, we took advantage of today's hints and started our out of season shopping for a new snowblower this morning.

The Better Half exchanged anniversary cards with us this morning. We both also had fun checking out snowblowers at the local dealer. (Yes, we do try to walk the talk of shopping local.) This afternoon we'll be working with the Daughter Person [DP] and Son-In-Law {SIL] to get our tractor and implements back onto our property. Next week should be cool enough to begin to get some seasonal change chores done about every day.

Tonight, in honor of many, many years of happy marriage we're heading for a farm-to-table restaurant that we first ate at several weeks ago and now want to introduce the DP and SIL to. If it weren't for climate breakdown, the 6th extinction, the disasters occurring in our nation's capital, in Britain, in Hong Kong, in Brazil and lord knows where else, life would be pretty good these days. Sometime next week we'll return to our pondering about the proposed Green New Deals at the federal and state level.

As background, we once again urge folks to spend time looking through the Drawdown web site. Yesterday we read an essay that's part of the Drawdown book but doesn't seem to be on the web site, we think it's important enough that we found where on the internets you can read it. Reciprocity by Janine Benyus has helped to further turn our thinking around in terms or how to approach a number of opportunities the disasters we're facing present. Maybe you're already on the "cooperation is more significant than competition" train. We've been at the station for awhile and now are fully on board after reading Benyus' essay.

Extinction

by Jackie Kay

We closed the borders, folks, we nailed it.
No trees, no plants, no immigrants.
No foreign nurses, no Doctors; we smashed it.
We took control of our affairs. No fresh air.
No birds, no bees, no HIV, no Poles, no pollen.
No pandas, no polar bears, no ice, no dice.
No rainforests, no foraging, no France.
No frogs, no golden toads, no Harlequins.
No Greens, no Brussels, no vegetarians, no lesbians.
No carbon curbed emissions, no Co2 questions.
No lions, no tigers, no bears. No BBC picked audience.
No loony lefties, please. No politically correct classes.
No classes. No Guardian readers. No readers.
No emus, no EUs, no Eco warriors, no Euros,
No rhinos, no zebras, no burnt bras, no elephants.
We shut it down! No immigrants, no immigrants.
No sniveling-recycling-global-warming nutters.
Little man, little woman, the world is a dangerous place.
Now, pour me a pint, dear. Get out of my fracking face.
