Much of the leaf litter has been cleared from the drive. For the most part, I loosened the fallen leaves with the electric leaf blower and let the west wind carry them away. We’re getting gusts over 20 mph so that helps. I think this may be some of what the regenerative folks mean by working with nature instead of trying to dominate her. It all would have gone quicker and easier if we hadn’t had more rain early (3 a.m.-ish) this morning.
Since my biorhythms haven’t adjusted to the change in time, I was grateful this morning that last night I hadn’t fixed the time on the coffee maker. The coffee was ready for us when the dogs and I awoke early. They’re catching a nap, showing more sense than I am, but they don’t have to blow leaves or snow. They expect me to take care of those chores while they watch for strangers, sniff for unusual smells, or listen for sudden noises to be barked at or about. No matter how many times I tell them about the boy who cried wolf, they don’t seem to get the point. Since many folks continue to believe Republicans, I suppose the dogs also have a point.

I’m going to try to pretend that the fact that election day and a full moon will be concurrent this year has no effect on how people will vote or the media will report results, but I’d be happier if the full moon occurred closer to Thanksgiving. Furthermore, I refuse to speculate on how soon, or long, after the polls close results will be announced and how long after, if ever, that the results will be accepted by the losers.
Speaking of snow jobs, do you think we’ll get snow cover this month or will we have to wait until closer to Christmas Eve. The Daughter Person’s birthday is early in December and she becomes a little more anxious every day after her birthday we don’t have snow covered ground. Her father would be happy if we got 4 inches on Christmas Eve and it was all gone by New Years, if the temperatures didn’t drop too much so the septic system didn’t freeze.
It should be an interesting couple of weeks coming up and we’ll hope against hope that we have lots to be thankful for come the 24th.
Autumn
In the dreamy silence
Of the afternoon, a
Cloth of gold is woven
Over wood and prairie;
And the jaybird, newly
Fallen from the heaven,
Scatters cordial greetings,
And the air is filled with
Scarlet leaves, that, dropping,
Rise again, as ever,
With a useless sigh for
Rest—and it is Autumn.
