Last night we had some interesting thunder storms roll through, or so I'm told by the Better Half. I slept through them but they probably looked something like this. More of the same is in the forecast for later this afternoon and evening.

Today, the grasses and flowers are kind of pounded down from the downpour we had. The "haze" you might be able to see dimming the picture comes from condensation on the camera lens filter. All the windows had a similar, but heavier, coating for most of the morning. The temperature and humidity differential between inside and outside is a bit of a shock. If one has to be outside for awhile, it does feel really nice to step inside. The alternative isn't as true and we are once again discovering the frustrations of Summer cabin fever. If the Summer is going to stay like this, October can't come soon enough.

A Thunderstorm
by Emily Dickinson
The wind begun to rock the grass
With threatening tunes and low, -
He flung a menace at the earth,
A menace at the sky.
The leaves unhooked themselves from trees
And started all abroad;
The dust did scoop itself like hands
And throw away the road.
The wagons quickened on the streets,
The thunder hurried slow;
The lightning showed a yellow beak,
And then a livid claw.
The birds put up the bars to nests,
The cattle fled to barns;
There came one drop of giant rain,
And then, as if the hands
That held the dams had parted hold,
The waters wrecked the sky,
But overlooked my father's house,
Just quartering a tree.
