Happy New Year!

My Minnesota wishes you and yours a year full of holistic harmony, happiness, and health. As one of our favorite characters would say "Live long and prosper." It is, yet again, the dawn of the first new day of a new year. It is another year when another damnable election campaign, "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" will hopefully end, giving us a few weeks respite before inauguration and swearing in and the start of the next campaign. I suppose, since we are creatures of nature, and nature's cycle of seasons seems never ending, it may be reasonable to expect election cycles to follow a similar pattern.

Since that seems to be the case, call me irresponsible, but this year, rather than comparing and contrasting pointless political promises, I'm planning on devoting time to watch the days lengthen until they reach Summer solstice, plateau, and then slowly descend into yet another Winter. I'll vote for those who I hope will best help us change from a nation of consumers to a country of citizens; who recognize that any economy depends on the environment, and not the other way around; those who, as I wrote in a poem years ago, would rather light a candle than curse the darkness. I hope and pray for all of us that 2016 becomes a year of American enlightenment based on Native American values such as reciprocity and interdependence; that this year we may all become native to this place. There is no planet "B."

Lullaby

The earth is your mother,
she holds you.
The sky is your father,
he protects you.
Sleep,
sleep.
Rainbow is your sister,
she loves you.
The winds are your brothers,
they sing to you.
Sleep,
sleep.
We are together always
We are together always
There never was a time
when this
was not so.
