Down the rabbit hole for Christmas?

While we were headed to Minneapolis this morning, a thought occurred to me that I intend to play with a little bit here over the next day or two. To begin, it appears that what we thought was an ancient Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times." is neither ancient nor Chinese. Since the times we are living in are far more interesting than many of us would wish, it occurred to me an appropriate allusion might be found in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, in which Alice goes "down the rabbit hole." I've seen many a mention of that type of trip in social media over a number of recent months. It has usually referred to some political occurrence or other. So, I began to ponder which contemporary politicians would be the equivalent of which characters in Alice. For example, would Alice herself be Hilary Clinton, or Elizabeth Warren?

There is no doubt in my mind that The Queen of Hearts must be played by D. Trump. Would the Cheshire Cat be played by Mike Pence, or is the VP the King of Hearts? Is Rudy Giuliani the Mad Hatter? Who would be the White Rabbit? Just below is a list of other main characters. Think about who seems to fit as you watch or read about the impeachment hearings and the defense of POTUS.

  • The Duchess

  • The Caterpillar

  • The Mad Hatter

  • The March Hare

  • The Dormouse

  • The Dodo

  • The Frog-Footman

There are other characters you can feel free to include. At the moment, I'm more interested in which political figures seem to be a "best fit" for the Wonderland characters. Have at it in the comments. Consider this an early Christmas present in the form or a puzzle. I'll take a look at Through the Looking Glass and see if anyone there needs to be added to the list tomorrow. Now, directly from a current POTUS press conference, here's

Jabberwocky

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
      The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
      And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
      And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
      The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
      He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
      He chortled in his joy.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.
