A hope filled summer

Yesterday afternoon we had our first sighting of a whitetail fawn following mom through our back yard. This morning, while heading toward The Cities for an appointment,  I saw the first sandhill crane colt of the year. It's encouraging to see evidence that things haven't yet deteriorated to the point that there are no young of the year for at least some species. Meanwhile, there's way too much foot dragging and obfuscation among countries on making and honoring meaningful pledges to keep global warming at 1.5℃ or less.

Later today we'll go collect the last spring Community Supported Agriculture [CSA] share. There'll be a hiatus of several weeks before summer shares begin. But, since temperatures during  the next several days are forecast to approach the mid-90℉ range, there's no question in my mind we've entered summer, even if, technically, it's only meteorologically and not yet astronomically nor agriculturally. There's still a little catching up on late spring clean-up chores to be done before we've reached the point where the "livin' is easy," but we may well get there by Independence Day. That's another reason to hope for a better future and a better summer than we've seen  the past four years.

"Summertime"

George Gershwin

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But till that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by
