Adjusting to Spring

Roadside grass blades emerge and grow taller. American goldfinch males are turning breeding season colors. Day lily leaves extend several inches above ground. Last night's thunder storms brought a limited amount of needed moisture. They also made our dog, SiSi, very nervous. We spent much time and energy  last night providing reassurance.

More rain is due off and on for the rest of the week. Is this really Springtime in the North Country, or are we headed toward a temperature drop and snowfall next week? Stay tuned.

It pains us, literally, to admit it but our senior sedentariness all winter long has left us in terrible shape to take on spring chores. Our compulsive approach of wanting to "get it all done and be finished" isn't much help. Don't be surprised if sometime soon you see a posting here that's simply a repetition 500 times of "Seasonal chores are a daily process, not a one time event." We need to be reminded that chores are like eating a meal. It should be done it several times each day, not just cramming in required calories once a week or month.

Spring Thunder

 - 1894-1972

Listen. The wind is still,
And far away in the night—
See!  The uplands fill
With a running light.

Open the doors.  It is warm;
And where the sky was clear —
Look!  The head of a storm
That marches here!

Come under the trembling hedge—
Fast, although you fumble. . . .
There!  Did you hear the edge
Of winter crumble?
